The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the long-term reliability, availability, and performance of automated production equipment throughout the program lifecycle. The role provides technical support for maintenance and controls systems while developing and executing preventive, predictive, and lifecycle maintenance strategies to minimize downtime and sustain production performance. Supports, troubleshoots and optimizes automated production equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, robotics, drives, sensors, safety systems, and industrial networks.
Develop and manage preventive and predictive maintenance plans based on equipment criticality, manufacturer recommendations, operating conditions, and failure history. Plan lifecycle maintenance activities, including major overhauls, component replacement, controls upgrades, and equipment obsolescence management. Analyze equipment performance and reliability indicators such as downtime, MTBF, MTTR, and recurring failure modes.
Lead root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions for chronic equipment and controls issues. Define critical spare parts and support spare-parts strategy for controls, automation, and high-risk equipment. Maintain and control backups of PLC/HMI programs, robot programs, drive parameters, and equipment configurations. Support equipment modifications, continuous improvement, capacity changes, and new product or process launches.
Coordinate maintenance activities with Production, Process Engineering, Controls, Quality, and OEM/supplier teams. Ensure equipment remains safe, maintainable, reliable, and technically sustainable from launch through the end of the program lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Safety & Risk Management
Technically verify and validate compliance with safety protocols and standards (SOI, AST, VJP, PTA, FAS08/EJP) during maintenance activities. Perform operational and machine-access Risk Assessments, configuring and validating intrinsic machine safety systems, including SafeMove, Distributed Safety, and ANSI/RIA 15.06, for assigned equipment.
MES, Quality & Traceability Systems
Maintain and validate the integrity of MES and product traceability systems across production lines, including FIS, QLS, GPTS, QWX, marking, vision, and quality interlocks. Ensure control systems properly capture, safeguard, and trace critical product quality parameters. Validate that controls interventions or modifications do not compromise data flow, error-proofing, quality interlocks, or product traceability before releasing equipment back to production.
Production & Control Center Support
Provide technical support to the 5-Wall BCC and shop-floor MCC, actively supporting and taking ownership of processes within the Control Centers where Maintenance & Controls involvement is required (DCC, ZCC). Sustain equipment availability, reliability, and cycle-time performance to support production volume requirements.
Cost, Asset & MRO Management
Optimize the use of line resources, spare parts, and consumables, ensuring associated costs are accurately recorded in Maximo/MFM to maintain cost traceability by asset. Understand and support CAPEX/OPEX management and MRO/FRACAS strategies, and execute technology improvement projects (CIB) aimed at reducing operating costs based on asset criticality.
Maintenance Strategy & Equipment Lifecycle
Apply the MOS 3x3+3 methodology and established maintenance methods to sustain equipment operating cycle and 24/7 availability, including RCA, PMO, MRO, and Constraint Management. Lead the technical evolution of machinery by transitioning from time-based maintenance to cycle-based and predictive maintenance through instrumentation and IIoT. Execute controls and automation upgrades, retrofits, and repairs, while maintaining the spare-part-to-asset relationship required to ensure long-term equipment maintainability throughout the program lifecycle.
AI, Standardization & Technical Development
Lead the implementation of AI solutions within maintenance operations. Develop, standardize, and continuously improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical documentation, while providing technical training and knowledge transfer to Skilled Trades and Engineering teams.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electromechanical, or related Engineering. Minimum of 4 years of experience in automotive electronic component manufacturing, with hands-on experience supporting automated manufacturing processes and equipment. Previous experience in Maintenance or Controls Engineering, Process Engineer or Process Coach, or similar process-focused manufacturing roles.
