DHL Global Forwarding has an opening for a Head of Air Freight in Lagos, Nigeria. Lead AFR product and capacity management sub function at country level and provide input to and lead the implementation of functional strategy to support the commercial strategy in line with business; objectives, corporate guidelines and policies.

In this Head of Air Freight position Lead AFR product and capacity management activities at country level Formulate current and long-range plans, objectives, policies and procedures to translate overall product and capacity management strategy, shareholder interests and profitability at country level

• Determine and initiate plans to ensure allocation and reservations of freight on planned linehaul and flights required for hub and operations performance
• Lead development and implementation of products for various air freight customers and products including perishables, pharmaceutical, aviation, etc.
• Lead development of air freight carrier management and product and capacity management plans and budgets, and the achievement of productivity targets at country level
• Develop business processes to ensure that customer and airline requirements and service, cost and budgetary guidelines are met
• Set direction for development and maintenance of databases with specific information to enable quick responses to specific network queries
• Build and develop understanding and secure business relationships with customers and airlines
• Approve carrier performance reports and reviews
• Monitor processes and systems to enhance service quality and alignment with company's direction and long-term goals Benchmark, develop and introduce alternatives to enhance services and processes to secure cost-effective and competitive products and negotiate competitive rates with airline suppliers while meeting desired service specifications and transit time targets Align and assess recent developments of new solutions, services, lane and traffic development
• Provide expert and high level advice on complex issues, benchmark, identify opportunities and introduce best practices for AFR product and capacity management focusing on increasing effectiveness and efficiency
• Lead procurement strategy for the country.

Stakeholders Extensive contact and negotiating with other departments and 3rd parties with conflicting objectives

• Influence and challenge key stakeholders effectively
• Develop strong, trusting cross-functional relationships with senior DHL business leaders
• Influence others across DHL and externally as an internally and externally recognized thought leader representing the Group Champion cooperation and partnership to provide integrated solutions to problems

Management Responsibility

• Lead multiple teams of lower level executives, directors/senior managers, and managers
