Job description

About US

Amazon Interactive Video Service (Amazon IVS) is AWS's fully managed live streaming service, built on the same battle-tested technology that powers Twitch and trusted by thousands of enterprises across gaming, social, live commerce, sports, and entertainment.

Our mission

enable developers to build communities around live video. We handle everything from ingest to processing to delivery at global scale, so developers can focus on creating interactive, engaging live experiences for their audiences. Whether you're streaming to tens of millions of concurrent viewers or just getting started, Amazon IVS removes the complexity so developers can move fast.

About The Role

As a Software Development Engineer on the Amazon IVS Control Plane team, you will build customer-facing experiences and highly scalable, reliable, and secure systems that power Amazon IVS.

The IVS Console is the primary interface through which customers configure, monitor, and manage their IVS resources, while the IVS Control Plane provides the APIs and backend systems that orchestrate those resources at AWS scale. You will work across both to build seamless end-to-end experiences for IVS customers. Your work will directly empower developers, broadcasters, and businesses around the world to deliver low-latency, interactive video experiences.

Key job responsibilities

- Design and develop intuitive user interfaces for the IVS Console using modern web technologies

- Design and develop scalable backend services and public APIs for Amazon IVS

- Build distributed systems that manage the configuration, orchestration, and lifecycle of live video streaming resources using TypeScript, Go or similar modern programming languages

- Define and maintain infrastructure using infrastructure as code practices, primarily with AWS CDK

- Work closely with engineers, product managers, UX designers, and applied scientists to deliver seamless customer experiences

- Ensure systems are highly available, scalable, and secure at AWS scale

- Apply engineering best practices across testing, performance optimization, observability, and code quality

- Collaborate with other AWS teams to integrate shared services and deliver consistent customer experiences across AWS services

- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, design reviews, and on-call rotations

- Drive operational excellence through automation, metrics, alarms, and runbooks

A day in the life

You might start the morning by checking how the service is running and investigating an issue that surfaced overnight. Later, you could join a design discussion for a new customer feature, thinking through the experience from the public API, console, all the way to the backend systems that make it work. After lunch, you might work through an interesting technical problem with a teammate, review a change, or meet with product to refine how a feature should work for customers.

Some days are focused on building intuitive customer experiences, while others take you deep into distributed systems and large scale service operations. You’ll have the opportunity to follow problems across the stack and see the features you build through from idea to launch.
