Who will you be working with? You will work closely with global engineering teams, systems engineering, drafting, manufacturing, suppliers, and cross functional stakeholders to develop locomotive cab structures and packaging solutions. This role provides exposure to advanced technologies, high-impact projects, and collaboration with senior technical leaders. How will you make a difference? As a Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of locomotive cab structures and components that meet safety, performance, cost, reliability, and quality requirements.

Your work will support innovative locomotive programs by delivering robust engineering solutions and ensuring designs are successfully transitioned through manufacturing and validation. What will your typical day look like? Design and develop locomotive cab structures and components using sound engineering principles and established design standards. Develop design concepts, evaluate alternatives, identify risks, and implement mitigation plans.

Lead designs through technical and cross-functional design reviews. Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, drawings, and change requests. Collaborate with systems engineering, drafting, manufacturing, suppliers, and other stakeholders. Provide shop, supplier, and field support to resolve technical issues. Manage multiple projects while meeting scope, quality, and schedule commitments. Develop verification and validation plans for cab systems and functionalities.

Perform design risk assessments and implement corrective actions as needed. Review and approve designs and detailed drawings in accordance with engineering processes. Support continuous improvement initiatives and organizational activities. What do we want to know about you? Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Experience in mechanical design and light fabrication, with knowledge of structural design principles.

Understanding of material strength, fatigue analysis, bolted joints, welded joints, and structural integrity requirements. Familiarity with CAD and PLM tools such as Siemens NX (UG) and Teamcenter. Knowledge of light and heavy structural design, DFMA, DFM, and product lifecycle management practices. Understanding of ASME Y14.5, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and AWS specifications. Ability to manage multiple projects and effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Strong communication, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills; FEA knowledge is a plus. What about the physical demands of the job? Ability to work in manufacturing and shop-floor environments as required. Occasional visits to manufacturing facilities, suppliers, or field locations may be required. Ability to review and inspect mechanical components and assemblies. You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
