Job description

Who will you be working with? You will be part of the Locomotive Controls Engineering team, working alongside Systems Engineering, Product Management, Verification & Validation, Hardware Engineering, Test Engineering, Field Services, and customer-facing teams. Together, you will develop, enhance, and support embedded software solutions that power locomotive control systems and enable safe, reliable, and secure operation across Wabtec's product portfolio.

How will you make a difference? As a Lead Embedded Software Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, integration, and support of embedded software for locomotive control systems. You will drive software enhancements, customer requisitions, and new product introduction (NPI) initiatives while ensuring compliance with cybersecurity, quality, and performance requirements. Your contributions will directly impact product reliability, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

What do we want to know about you? Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field. Minimum 3 years of experience developing embedded real-time software using C/C++ on RTOS platforms such as Linux or QNX. Experience with software testing, debugging, integration, root cause analysis, and hardware-integrated test environments. Familiarity with cybersecurity practices, secure coding standards, vulnerability remediation, and software quality tools.

Experience with CI/CD, DevOps methodologies, configuration management, and source control tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, and Perforce. Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills; locomotive controls experience is a plus. What will your typical day look like? Design, develop, test, debug, and release embedded software for locomotive control systems. Implement cybersecurity features and support Cyber Authorization to Operate (CATO) compliance activities.

Investigate software defects, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. Conduct software design reviews and code reviews to ensure quality and maintainability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, develop solutions, and support program execution. Analyze technical data, communicate findings, and provide status updates on key risks and issues. Support verification, validation, testing, and software deployment activities in laboratory, factory, and customer environments.

Work directly with locomotives to support feature development, demonstrations, troubleshooting, and field investigations. Participate in technical reviews, design reviews, and program milestone discussions. What about the physical demands of the job? Work is performed in office, laboratory, manufacturing, and field environments. Occasional travel may be required to support customer sites, testing activities, and product validation efforts.

Ability to work around industrial equipment and locomotives while performing testing, troubleshooting, and investigations. You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, is available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Relocation assistance may be provided if eligibility requirements are met.

Wabtec will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the U.S. for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a drug screen (as applicable) and fitness for duty test (as applicable). #LI-PROMOTEDJOBS
