This position is expected to start around Nov. or Dec. 2026 with a duration of at least 5 months, 5 days per week on-site. The Role The Factory Firmware Team in the Vehicle Firmware organization owns how firmware changes are evaluated, developed, validated and launched as Tesla introduces new hardware or brings new market variants into vehicle production. As a Firmware Integration Engineer intern, you will support end-to-end firmware programs for new hardware introductions and new product variant launches.

You will use engineering judgment to assess firmware impact, coordinate development and validation, define firmware branch strategy, and support factory introduction, working closely with other vehicle firmware teams as well as electrical and mechanical design, program, and manufacturing teams. In the meantime, you’ll also have opportunities to optimize and design firmware program management workflows or tools with automation to simplify daily firmware integration work for new programs.

In this role, you will drive several firmware integration programs from development through vehicle validation, manufacturing, and launch, with Tesla’s signature agility and speed.

Responsibilities

Manage cross-functional firmware programs from planning through introduction, including impact assessment from hardware design changes or new market/variant scope, firmware branch and version strategy, and launch readiness. Work with program, hardware design and firmware development teams to understand system impacts, translate engineering constraints into program actions, and communicate status to stakeholders. Develop and manage vehicle firmware schedules against program milestones and drive on-time delivery.

Coordinate firmware development, validation, trials, integration to the production line and readiness to launch with program, engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams. Track firmware branches and versions, trial results, identified issues and fix plans; support issue triage and ensure the right firmware is validated and released for each program milestone. Continuously improve introduction processes and workflows, so firmware launches are more precise, predictable, and agile.

Requirements

BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent. Conceptual understanding of vehicles, electrical systems, and/or embedded firmware - enough to follow system discussions, ask right questions, and make sound program decisions. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to thrive in a highly cross-functional environment. Ability to work independently, with limited resources, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced setting.

Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written). Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook is a plus Experience with Jira (or similar tools) for task tracking and project management is a plus. Familiarity with Python, Bash, or YAML/JSON configuration files, is a plus.
