Background Modern defence systems rely on a combination of software, hardware, networks and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technologies. This creates new opportunities but also introduces challenges related to cyber security, risk management and regulatory compliance.

Organizations must continuously evaluate cyber security risks, understand dependencies between components, manage vulnerabilities and ensure that systems remain secure throughout their lifecycle. To support these goals, effective methods, architectures, processes and supporting tools are required. Description of the Thesis Project The objective of this thesis is to investigate how cyber security engineering can be applied and improved in complex system environments.

The exact scope will be defined together with the selected student, but potential focus areas include: Cyber Security Risk Assessment (CSRA) methodologies Security architecture and secure-by-design principles Vulnerability management processes Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) and component traceability Security monitoring and lifecycle management Cyber security governance and compliance frameworks Tool support and automation of cyber security processes

Application of AI-assisted methods within cyber security engineering Depending on the chosen direction, the thesis may involve: Research and analysis Process modelling Architecture studies Tool evaluations Proof-of-concept implementation Development of recommendations and best practices Your profile We believe you are pursuing a Master's degree in: Cyber Security Computer Science Software

Engineering Information Security Systems Engineering Computer Engineering Or a related field You have an interest in: Security engineering System architecture Risk analysis Software and system development Emerging technologies As a person, you are analytical, curious and motivated by solving complex technical challenges.
