We are looking for people who want to learn and grow within our Shipfitting Department as we continue to build the most advanced submarines.

With more than a century of experience, Electric Boat has established standards of excellence in the design, construction and lifecycle support of submarines for the US Navy while maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. Working with various metals, a Shipfitter is required to interpret construction drawings with basic mathematic ability. Job tasks include layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of foundations, structures, components and deck packages.

Individuals need to develop a working knowledge of structural weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning and grinding operations. Work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures. Work conditions may include entry in restricted/confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Must be able to work all shifts and in all environments as well as Radiological areas of the boat Willing to accept road job assignments Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD secret clearance Qualifications Required: Must have a High School Diploma/GED or be a current High School Senior OR 2+ years of relevant technical experience 0-5 years of relevant experience to this job description Successful completion of the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative training program if applicable
• Must be available to train and work on any shift Preferred: Additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
• Knowledge in fitting, fairing and shaping steel pieces, hull sections, bulkheads and equipment foundations
