Essity – a leading global hygiene and health company and the home of brands like Libero, TENA, Libresse, Tork, Sorbact and JOBST – is offering an exciting and challenging master thesis opportunity for you who want to contribute with your expertise, energy and creativity. About the job Are you interested in computational mechanics, biomechanics and finite element modelling? Would you like to investigate how detailed a virtual representation of the human body needs to be to accurately simulate interactions between people and products?
At Essity, computational Human Body Models (HBMs) can provide valuable insight into how products interact with the human body. However, HBMs can range from relatively simple representations of the body to highly detailed models containing individual anatomical structures and sophisticated material descriptions. For product–human interaction it is not always clear whether additional anatomical detail leads to meaningfully different predictions.
Understanding which modelling details significantly influence simulation results is therefore important for developing efficient and reliable HBMs for future product development. Your role and profile As a master thesis student, you will work with existing Human Body Models and develop and evaluate different levels of model fidelity for simulations. The work will focus on two closely related aspects of HBM biofidelity: skin representation and anatomical complexity.
We are looking for one or two master thesis students with a background in, for example: Applied mechanics Mechanical engineering Engineering physics Biomedical engineering Computational mechanics Biomechanics A related engineering or scientific discipline Experience or coursework in finite element analysis, continuum mechanics, solid mechanics, biomechanics or material modelling is beneficial. Project What is the best approach to skin modelling and how does it affect product to HBM interaction?
How detailed does a Human Body Model need to be to realistically and efficiently predict product–human interaction? Office presence The thesis is expected to be performed partly on-site at Essity in Gothenburg, approximately 40% of the time, with flexibility for remote work during periods. What you will be a part of At Essity, we are committed to improving well-being through leading hygiene and health solutions. Modelling and simulation provide opportunities to better understand the interaction between our products and the people who use them and to support more efficient and knowledge-driven product development. As a master thesis student, you will become part of an interdisciplinary environment where engineering, simulation, research and product development come together.
You will have the opportunity to develop your technical expertise while contributing knowledge that can influence how Human Body Models are developed and used within Essity. Application Interested? If you are up for the challenge and think this sounds like you, apply online today! Kindly note that due to GDPR we will not accept applications via mail. N.B. If you apply as a pair of students, send in one application each but make sure to clearly state in the application which person you intend to do the master thesis with.
