Job description

Placement Student - Application Engineering

We are looking for an enthusiastic Application Engineering Placement Student to join our team specialising in Engineering for our Turbocharger business segment in Huddersfield, United Kingdom. During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organisation operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry. The requirements are to be onsite for 3 days per week so you will need to be able to travel or relocate to the location on your own behalf This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence Summer 2027.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Applying a broad level of technical awareness across multiple engineering disciplines such as engine performance, mechanics, aerodynamics and design.
  • Working with customers to manage their requirements, collaborating with internal stakeholders to review and assess against product capabilities, then developing detailed specifications for new products.
  • Creating then managing validation plans to ensure products are robust and proven to meet the customers’ requirements. Leveraging internal testing capabilities within our laboratory operations by specifying test plans, analyzing data and leading technical reviews of the results.
  • Supporting general customer enquiries, providing a high quality and timely level of service.
  • Sourcing information, interpreting data, developing and implementing solutions that are results focused and to agreed deadlines, as per technical requests.
  • Using internal systems and document libraries, ensuring robust written communication and record keeping. To be successful in this role you will need the following:
  • To be working towards a STEM degree — we welcome students from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to thrive in team settings, ideally with experience contributing to or leading a group project.
  • A strong desire to learn and grow, with a foundational understanding of scientific or engineering principles.
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft tools, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
