Romulus, MI Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is one of North America’s premier processors, buyers, sellers and recyclers of scrap metals of all kinds and is a key supplier to the metals industry of North America. FPT is a wholly-owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Mechanic at our Romulus, MI location. The Mechanic is responsible for the repairs and maintenance of trucks and heavy-duty machinery.

Summary of Responsibilities

Ensure adherence to safety standards including use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), remove hazards as identified, and maintain cleanliness of the site. Performs repairs on engines, brakes, suspensions, transmissions, and electrical equipment on the site’s trucks and yard machinery. Air system diagnostics and repair. Electrical diagnostics and repairs Inspect, lubricate and service equipment per company maintenance schedules.

Change flat tires. Make service calls on down trucks and pick up parts from various dealerships as required. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues and make necessary repairs, adjustments, or replacements Drive trucks and trailers to test their performance. Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and general housekeeping Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED and must be at least 18 years of age. Must have valid driver’s license, CDL preferred. Experience as a diesel mechanic and experience with hydraulic systems preferred. Experience welding and torching preferred. Mechanic license or equivalent experience. Ability to work independently, self-motivated and self-directed.

• Ability to endure physical and outdoor work on a daily basis.

Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

• Must be able to work in an environment where routinely exposed to dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate and changes in weather.
