Job description

Amazon LEO is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

Export Control

This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. Citizen in order to comply with U.S. government-imposed requirements related to the nature of the work and/or where it will be performed.

Amazon Leo Productivity Engineering Application Services (ALPEAS) is looking for a System Development Engineer to own the deployment, administration, and automation of productivity tools — primarily Jama Connect and related engineering collaboration platforms — within Amazon Leo. You will build and operate infrastructure in AWS GovCloud to support Leo's systems engineering, requirements management, and test management workflows at scale.

Key job responsibilities

- Jama Connect Operations: Deploy, configure, maintain, and scale Jama Connect infrastructure in AWS GovCloud, ensuring high availability, performance, and security compliance (ITAR/EAR).

- Infrastructure as Code: Design and implement CDK stacks for application infrastructure including compute (EC2/ECS), databases (RDS/Aurora), networking (VPC, PrivateLink, NLB), and storage.

- Automation & Integration: Build automation for user provisioning, access management, backups, patching, and monitoring. Develop integrations between Jama and other Kuiper tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, TestRail).

- Security & Compliance: Implement and maintain security controls compliant with ITAR and export control regulations. Manage access through least-privilege models.

- Monitoring & Incident Response: Build dashboards, alarms, and runbooks. Participate in on-call rotation to ensure service reliability.

- Tool Evaluation & Adoption: Evaluate, pilot, and onboard new productivity tools to support Kuiper's engineering workflows. Drive user training and adoption.

A day in the life

In this role, you will function as both an Jama/productivity tools DevOps Engineer. You will operate various collaboration tools stacks in AWS GovCloud, develop automation for upgrades/patching/testing, and enhance observability of the systems. You will work with stakeholders and senior engineers to design and develop custom solutions and integrations between the productivity tools and other services in a secure manner.

About the team

ALPEAS builds and operates the core productivity solutions supporting Leo's operations and engagements with business partners. Our services set the example for operational excellence and invisibly scale as the business grows, while maintaining the highest standards of security and regulatory compliance. We innovate on behalf of our customers to automate and simplify their workflows, enabling them to focus on high-value activities.
