## Job description

### Position

Staff Software Engineer Job Location: 1375 Crossman Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94089 Duties: Design and implement highly available, fault-tolerant payment capture microservices processing millions of transactions daily for a large-scale e-commerce platform. Develop a mission-critical payment capture service handling all payment types across the e-commerce platform. Design and implement reusable frameworks for accelerating new payment instrument integrations, enabling rapid onboarding of payment types including prepaid cards, dual-network debit cards, digital rewards, and buy-now-pay-later providers.

Design and Implement event-driven, asynchronous payment processing pipelines using Apache Kafka with Avro schema registry for reliable, schema-validated financial event streaming. Design and implement data persistence and state management using Azure Cosmos DB for low-latency, globally distributed payment transaction storage, including TTL-based archival strategies and automated data lifecycle management. Design and implement order lifecycle features including refund SLA enforcement, order state signal redesign, driver tipping workflows, product SKU resolution, and restaurant partner ID mapping for multi-chain quick-service restaurant operators.

Deploy and manage containerized microservices on a Kubernetes-based cloud-native platform using declarative YAML configuration management, centralized feature flag and configuration services, and automated canary deployment pipelines. Perform root cause analysis and resolution of critical production payment incidents, serving active on-call rotation responsibility; maintain low Mean Time to Detection (MTTD) and Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR) using log analysis platforms, Grafana dashboards, and Kubernetes monitoring panels.

Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive observability for payment capture services: establish baseline alert thresholds, author monitoring playbooks covering CPU, memory, pod health, response time, exception rate, and payment-domain-specific failure conditions, and lead cross-team adoption of alert-driven on-call practices. Design and build end-to-end regression test suites covering comprehensive quick-service restaurant order use cases to validate order management correctness across environments.

Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and knowledge sharing to engineers across payment capture and order management domains; onboard and train engineers on Kafka best practices, observability tooling, and payment system architecture. Apply object-oriented design patterns and SOLID principles. Conduct peer code reviews and enforce code quality standards.

### Minimum education and experience required

Master’s degree or the equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering (any) or related field and 3 years of experience in large scale enterprise software development environment; OR Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering (any) or related field and 6 years of experience in large scale enterprise software development environment.

### Skills required

Experience designing and implementing distributed order search platforms using Apache Solr and SolrCloud, including schema design, atomic partial document update algorithms for field-level index updates on multi-valued fields, snapshot delta incremental indexing pipelines, composite key document management, and large-scale index maintenance. Experience designing and building event-driven financial data streaming pipelines using Apache Kafka and Kafka Avro with Schema Registry for schema-validated payment lifecycle event publishing.

Experience with payment capture systems including deferred authorization flows (pre-authorization holds with delayed settlement, retry logic for transient failures, and idempotent non-retryable error handling), Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT/SNAP), third-party digital wallet integration, and unified payment platform migration. Experience with NoSQL Database Apache Cassandra and Azure Cosmos DB for distributed, high-throughput financial transaction storage including TTL-based archival and data lifecycle management.

Experience designing and building products of micro-services-oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs for large-scale e-commerce order management systems. Experience with performance optimization for resolving platform limitations in high-throughput distributed order management systems including database compression, index management, Solr collection reload strategies, and Cassandra schema optimization. Experience in root cause analysis and resolution of critical production payment and order management incidents using monitoring and observability tools including Grafana, log analysis platforms, and Kubernetes monitoring dashboards to lower MTTD and MTTR.

Experience in fluency and specialization with Java including object-oriented programming, design patterns, and SOLID principles for payment and order management microservices. Experience with improving code quality through writing unit tests, automation, and performing code reviews using JUnit, Mockito, and Postman. Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) using Jenkins, GitHub, Maven, Artifactory, and version control tools Git.

Experience with Cloud Computing Services (Microsoft Azure) including Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure-based Kubernetes cluster deployment. Experience with container orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes for deploying and managing large-scale payment and order management services. Employer will accept any amount of experience with the required skills.
