This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise in landfill operations, and a commitment to safety and environmental stewardship. ### Essential Functions - Direct and supervise daily landfill operations, including waste placement, compaction, cover application, and leachate management. - Monitor and maintain equipment, ensuring proper functioning and scheduling necessary repairs. - Optimize landfill airspace utilization and maximize operational efficiency. - Implement and enforce operational procedures and best practices. - Ensure strict adherence to all local, state, and federal environmental regulations, permits, and licenses. - Maintain accurate records and prepare reports as required by regulatory agencies. - Conduct regular inspections to identify and address potential compliance issues. - Stay informed of changes in environmental regulations and implement necessary adjustments. - Supervise, train, and mentor a team of landfill operators. - Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback. - Foster a positive and safe working environment. - Schedule and assign tasks to ensure efficient workflow. - Manage inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment. - Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports. ### Critical Competencies - Leadership Skills - Acts decisively and supports all aspects of the company to work together to accomplish objectives, vision, mission and values of Vulcan. Demonstrates commitment and follow-through, with reliable performance and attendance. ## Responsibilities ### Education - Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred. ### Experience - Proven experience in landfill operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations pertaining to landfill operations. - Strong understanding of waste management principles, including waste types, disposal methods, and environmental impacts. - Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team. ### Other Requirements - Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. - Proficiency in using heavy equipment common to landfill operations. - Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks. - Work environment will be both indoors in an office and outside in the quarry or plant. - Will occasionally be required to sit at a desk or operator's station. - Will perform activities in unprotected heights, around moving machinery, be exposed to dust, fumes and gases; may be required to use hand tools or power tools. - Will be exposed to changes in temperature/humidity and will require walking on uneven surfaces. Salary Range. The base salary range for this role is between $95,000 - $127,000 annual salary. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors, including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
