About the Role At Visa, our Middleware Product Reliability Engineering (PRE) team is evolving into a modern software engineering organization focused on building intelligent, scalable systems that keep critical platforms running globally. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll design and build software that improves reliability, automation, observability, and resilience across Visa's middleware ecosystem. Why This Role Stands Out Global impact from day one – your work supports critical payment systems operating across more than 200 countries and territories Austin builder culture – work in a highly technical, hands-on environment where engineers are empowered to own problems and drive solutions Engineering-first mindset – strong emphasis on software development, automation, platform engineering, and long-term reliability improvements AI-driven innovation – build intelligent automation, agent-based workflows, and next-generation reliability solutions Meaningful ownership – work on systems that directly improve operational efficiency, resiliency, and engineering productivity - Strong growth opportunities – clear paths into Senior+, Staff, Principal, or Technical - Lead roles Collaborative team environment – partner with engineers across the U.S., Europe, India, and Singapore Continuous learning – gain hands-on experience with cloud platforms, AI technologies, middleware systems, and modern engineering practices Core Technologies Python Java Go AI - LLM Frameworks (LangGraph, LangChain, Agent Frameworks) AWS - GCP - Azure Kubernetes - Docker Terraform - Ansible Jenkins Prometheus - Grafana - Splunk Kafka - Flink Spring Boot Tomcat IBM MQ DataPower Linux - Unix ### What You'll Do - Build Production-Grade Software - Design and develop scalable automation platforms and reliability tooling - Write clean, maintainable code in Python, Java, or Go - Build systems for deployment orchestration, testing, validation, and rollback - Develop self-service platforms that reduce operational toil and improve engineering productivity Improve Reliability & Observability Enhance monitoring, alerting, and system visibility across critical middleware platforms - Troubleshoot production issues and implement durable, long-term engineering solutions - Improve performance, resiliency, and operational readiness Leverage metrics, logs, traces, and automation signals to drive reliability improvements - Contribute to AI-Driven Engineering - Build intelligent automation and AI-assisted operational workflows - Develop agent-based and LLM-powered solutions that improve reliability and engineering efficiency - Evaluate, validate, and operationalize AI-generated outputs using sound engineering practices - Partner with cross-functional teams to bring modern AI capabilities into production environments - Collaborate and Grow - Work in an Agile, engineering-focused environment - Contribute to architecture discussions, code reviews, and engineering standards - Share knowledge and mentor other engineers - Partner with globally distributed teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager. ### Qualifications Basic Qualifications: 2+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 5+ years of relevant work experience Preferred Qualifications: 3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) ### Core Requirements 1-5 years of software engineering experience, or equivalent SRE-DevOps experience with strong software development skills - Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Go - Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, system design, and distributed systems Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) - Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes Experience with CI-CD pipelines and automation tools including Jenkins, Terraform, or Ansible Working knowledge of observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk - Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills Experience working in Linux-Unix environments - Strong written and verbal communication skills Nice to Have (Not Required) Experience with middleware technologies such as Kafka, IBM MQ, DataPower, or Spring Boot Exposure to AI-ML concepts or modern AI development tools Experience with distributed, event-driven, or large-scale systems - Familiarity with emerging engineering tools such as MCP, Cline, Aider, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot Open-source contributions, personal technical projects, or hackathon experience How You'll Thrive Here We're looking for engineers who are: Curious and eager to learn Passionate about building software that solves operational problems Thoughtful about system reliability, scalability, and maintainability Comfortable working in complex production environments - Strong collaborators who enjoy solving challenging problems as part of a team Builders who take ownership and seek opportunities to improve systems and processes Our Commitment to Inclusion At Visa, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all employees can thrive and contribute their best work.
