## Job description

Internship Road noise virtual development Job ID 2026-5295 Belgium Brussels (Zaventem) R&D Internships About this job At Toyota Motor Europe in Zaventem, this internship in the NV & Driveability team focuses on virtual development of road noise. The intern will analyse tire, rim, and suspension vibration modes, optimize assessment methods, validate simulations with CAE tools, and support physical testing to reduce vehicle cabin noise and improve driving comfort.

Get to know your team and responsibilities Team/division description TME R&D centre is responsible for planning, development and production support of vehicles aimed at - and locally produced for - the European market. The “NV & Driveability” team is part of the Vehicle Performance Engineering division (VPE) division and is responsible for the vehicle NVH (Noise, Vibration and harshness) according to EU customer expectations.

We aim at the development of attractive and “fun to drive” cars matching European market requirements and customer expectations. Using state-of-the art experimental and numerical methods, we develop strategies to achieve the targets and validate them on virtual and physical prototypes. Your project Tire rolling noise, or road noise, is one of the main sources of noise in modern cars, becoming more impactful on customer expectations with the increased share of hybrid and electric powertrains.

To achieve a low level of road noise in the vehicle cabin, the forces entering the vehicle body through the suspension must be minimised. An important aspect is the control of the different modes in the tire, rim, and suspension. By transitioning to the virtual development of these components, we can accelerate time-to-market while simultaneously lowering CO2 emissions and reducing costs. You will contribute to an ongoing research project where the main goal is to build a detailed understanding of the different modes along the road noise path, how they contribute to the force transmission, and how they can be controlled through specific properties of the components involved.

You will: Optimize the existing procedures for component/subassembly mode assessment. Validate findings and support component/subassembly development through CAE software. Confirm findings by physical component/subassembly updates. Who are we looking for? Your profile You are pursuing your master’s in mechanical or automotive engineering, with a strong interest in cars and sound/acoustics. You have a background in structural dynamics (including modal analysis) and acoustics; knowledge of Noise & vibration testing (Testlab) and simulation (Nastran) is an important plus.

You have some affinity with mathematical and physical modelling, and scientific scripting in Matlab or Python. You have a good English capability, and you are eager to work in a multi-cultural environment. Starting date September 2026 Duration 6 months Confidentiality Due to business requirement, not all performed projects can be reflected in the internship report. This issue needs to be discussed with candidate/school in advance.

It is mandatory that applicants are students for the entire period of the internship. We can only accept students with an EEA or Swiss citizenship (not requiring a work permit or visa to be eligible to perform an internship in Belgium) Our offer We offer a dynamic multicultural work environment with broad opportunities to learn every day and exciting career pathways that help you explore different disciplines or areas of expertise.

Your benefits Flexible working hours and hybrid working (homeworking, 10 days from abroad); Company restaurant – Warm dishes, salads and desserts daily, including Japanese and traditional Belgian specialties, as well as a vegan/vegetarian option; Sport facilities – Tennis, squash, volleyball, football and softball pitches are available at various Toyota sites; Team building activities and other personnel related events; Programs to support your physical and social well-being.
