THE ROLE The team is seeking a Polymer Materials Engineer who can devote the efforts into “Engineering Materials”. This role will be representing Tesla Materials Engineering in China for innovative material/process development. This role will cover polymeric materials and have a special focus on soft trim development and thermoplastic. This role will reside at the Tesla factory in Shanghai. ### RESPONSIBILITIES - You should have a solid understanding of polymer materials development, characterization, and application, and proficient in designing material structure synthesis/polymerization experiments. You are expected to design and assemble philosophy independently. - Leading specific soft trims (artificial leather, textiles, carpeting, et al) and other thermoplastic materials innovation, development and launch. - Support on-going material application processes for soft trim from work with design engineering, Tier1 and material supplier to ensure solution is robust and optimized. - Lead process validation for new processes (extrusion, mold injection... etc). - Develop new material strategies for both soft trim and thermoplastic materials. - Represent Tesla at local material suppliers in China. - Manage soft trim / thermoplastic material approvals for local material suppliers in China. ### REQUIREMENTS - Polymer or Materials Engineering degree. Advanced degrees are nice but equivalent work experience can be as or more valuable. - Solid background and knowledge in various material properties and process-structure-properties understanding.
