Other related duties as assigned. ### Responsibilities General Functions: - Processes and tests specimens for clinical studies - Reviews test results and applies the correct clinical interpretation of that data - Reports lab results accurately and responsively, to include use of laboratory information system - Processes blood and other body fluids. Performs operation and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment to include advanced troubleshooting. - Performs venous and capillary phlebotomy and ensures specimen integrity Department/Business Unit Functions: Performs basic clerical functions - Assists in creating procedures - Assists in teaching employees or students Relays, orders, takes inventory and stocks supplies - Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively - Maintains safe environment Addresses patient population-specific needs - Participates in Performance Improvement activities Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION: Associate degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical laboratory technicians, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489. The above meets required criteria as defined by CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR 493.1489, Jan. 24, 2003 MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 0-2 years as a medical laboratory technician. ### PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE Certified (registered) or registry-eligible in accordance with an approved certifying agency, e.g. ASCP, HHS, AMT. Registry eligible should obtain certification within 1 year from date of hire.
