The NE II is assigned to work under the supervision of a registered nurse who delegates tasks based upon patient needs and NE II skills and abilities. The NE II will report all deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse. It is recognized that specific patient care tasks may vary widely in type and frequency from unit to unit or across service lines, based on the nature of the patient population being served. The Nurse Extern II will be assigned to an experienced RN each shift and will assist with providing patient care such as ADLS, vitals, ambulation and other duties within the scope of patient care tech or equivalent. The assigned RN instructs and mentors the Nurse Extern II in the assigned clinical area and provides feedback on an ongoing basis. ### Qualifications Completion of the Fundamentals of Nursing course through an accredited school of nursing. Students must successfully pass all courses to remain in the program. ### Facility Description DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan is one of the nation’s largest hospitals specializing in rehabilitation medicine and research. RIM is known for its clinical expertise in spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, amputee, orthopedics and catastrophic injury care. The Institute houses the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery and the Southeastern Michigan Traumatic Brain Injury System (SEMTBIS), one of only 16 federally designated model systems of care for brain injury care and research.
