[Apply on S&P Global’s careers site →](https://spgi.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/SPGI_Careers/job/London-UK/UK-Financial-Accountant_332139-1) [OpenNash Jobs](https://jobs.opennash.com/) / [S&P Global](https://jobs.opennash.com/companies/sp-global/) / UK Financial Accountant ## Job description ### About the Role Grade Level (for internal use): 10 The Role: UK Financial Accountant This role supports the EMEA Controllers organization with UK and other jurisdictions managed out of the London office, to ensure that the accounting operations are timely and accurately reported and that local statutory and International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”) requirements are adhered to, in addition to supporting enterprise-wide initiatives. ### The Team Reporting to the Associate Director – Financial Accounting, you are part of the EMEA Enterprise Controllership Leadership team, which is a team of 40, responsible for managing the accounting operations in the region and supporting the Company’s accounting and finance activities. The global Controllers organization is a team of 300+. ### Responsibilities and Impact The role will be responsible for all financial duties for UK entities and any other countries that are deemed appropriate. We are looking for a candidate who is a problem solver with an analytical mindset who is comfortable with taking on responsibility to ensure compliance with local statutory requirements. The candidate will play a key role in providing support for all Controllership matters. Analyze key balance sheet and P&L accounts; prepare and post associated journals. Support month-end processes, including journal preparation and balance sheet reconciliations. Prepare and post payroll journals, reconciliations, including necessary accruals. Allocate monthly intercompany cross charges related to Payroll Benefits. Analyze monthly financial reports and present findings to the board quarterly. Maintain accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards. Prepare financial statements for legal entities per FRS/IFRS and US GAAP. Liaise with external auditors for timely completion of statutory audits. Ensure timely submission of financial and non-financial information to local authorities. Support preparation of tax returns and related accounting workflows. Prepare UK Group VAT returns and manage associated accounting workflows. Assist the UK & Bermuda Controller with mergers, acquisitions, and legal entity restructuring. Support process improvement projects by identifying and implementing best practices. ### What We’re Looking For Basic Required Qualifications: 3 years’ experience in an audit, finance or accounting role, preferably in Public Accounting ACA / CA or equivalent certification Audit practice experience Good understanding general tax accounting and local tax regimes Experience of financial statement preparation under IFRS, UK GAAP and US GAAP Strong problem-solving ability Results orientated and self-motivating Additional Preferred Qualifications: AI tools usage or familiarity (e.g. Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini) Accounting experience in other EMEA jurisdictions Well organized and able to prioritize conflicting deadlines - Strong desire to exceed expectations - Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent This role requires 2 days a week or 9 days a month work from S&P Global London office.
