[Apply on Nokia’s careers site →](https://fa-evmr-saasfaprod1.fa.ocs.oraclecloud.com/hcmUI/CandidateExperience/en/sites/CX_1/job/40648) [OpenNash Jobs](https://jobs.opennash.com/) / [Nokia](https://jobs.opennash.com/companies/nokia/) / Optical System Engineer Co-Op ## Job description ### Number of Positions 1 Only for candidates from outside the US Duration: 4 months Location: Onsite in Murray Hill, NJ EDUCATIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS Currently a candidate for a PhD degree in Computer Science or a related field with an accredited school. ## Responsibilities Perform optical simulations and modal analyses, including wave propagation, resonator design, AWGs, and laser cavity modeling. Conduct RF circuit simulations and characterize high-speed components using S-parameters and driver modeling. Develop lab automation tools using Python, AI frameworks, FPGAs, Red Pitayas, Arduinos, and automated wafer-probing systems. Carry out hands-on experimentation in optical labs, including optical alignment, device characterization, and testing of high-speed communication hardware. Analyze, summarize, and present results; prepare technical papers for conferences and journals; and collaborate with experts across photonics, optical networks, and electronics. ## Qualifications Hands-on experience testing electro-optic and photonic devices in laboratory environments. Knowledge of optical waveguides, modulators, detectors, and related device physics. Knowledge of electrical circuitry and its interaction with photonic components. Experience working with free-space optical systems and alignment techniques. Familiarity with passive optical devices, including filters, resonators, and interferometer networks.
