Join a world leader and innovator in semiconductor and photonic device manufacturing as a Shift Process Engineer at our Caswell site. The Shift Process Engineer provides hands-on engineering support to semiconductor fabrication and backend manufacturing, ensuring safe, stable and efficient production. This is a shift-based role (24x7 operation, 12-hour shifts) rotating 2days, 2nights, 4days off structure. Working closely with Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Equipment Engineering, Product Engineering, Quality and R&D, the role supports process control, troubleshooting, production recovery, continuous improvement and new product introduction (NPI). The role may support one or more of the following technology areas: Lithography & E-Beam Lithography, Dry & Wet Etching, Thin Film Deposition, Metal Deposition and Backend Wafer Processing. ### Key Responsibilities Provide shift-based process engineering support across semiconductor fabrication and backend manufacturing operations. Act as an engineering point of contact for Manufacturing, providing timely technical support for process, product and equipment-related issues. Monitor process and product performance using SPC, MES and other manufacturing data systems, responding appropriately to abnormal or out-of-control conditions. Investigate manufacturing excursions using structured problem-solving and root-cause-analysis techniques, implementing appropriate containment, recovery and corrective actions. Maintain and improve production processes to enhance process capability, yield, quality, throughput, cycle time and cost. Support the development, qualification and introduction of new or modified manufacturing processes and products. Apply SPC, DOE, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and statistical methodologies to process improvement activities. Identify recurring manufacturing issues and escalate significant or unresolved problems to the appropriate process owner or engineering team. Prepare and maintain technical documentation including operating procedures, engineering reports, process specifications and training materials. Ability to mentor Manufacturing personnel while ensuring established process controls, quality requirements and operating procedures are followed. Work safely to semiconductor cleanroom and manufacturing environments and comply with all site health, safety and environmental requirements. Education, Qualifications, Skills & Competencies Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree or equivalent industrial experience in Semiconductor Technology, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline. Experience within semiconductor, photonics, compound semiconductor, MEMS, optoelectronics, silicon photonics or another advanced manufacturing environment is highly desirable. Practical or technical knowledge of one or more relevant semiconductor manufacturing technologies, including lithography, etching, thin-film deposition, metallisation or backend wafer processing. Experience in wafer mounting, thinning, back grinding, chemical mechanical polishing (CMP), polishing, cleaving and dicing is highly desirable Knowledge of SPC, DOE, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and structured root-cause-analysis methodologies. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret process, equipment and product data. Ability to troubleshoot and prioritise manufacturing issues within a fast-paced production environment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including effective communication between Manufacturing and Engineering teams. Competent user of Microsoft Office, manufacturing execution systems (MES) and relevant data-analysis applications. Knowledge of photonic integrated circuit manufacturing would be advantageous. Job Challenges The Shift Process Engineer operates at the interface between Manufacturing and Engineering, providing timely technical support while maintaining safety, product quality and process control.The role requires the ability to assess and prioritise manufacturing issues, troubleshoot problems, make data-driven engineering decisions and coordinate appropriate recovery or escalation.The position provides broad exposure to semiconductor and photonic manufacturing technologies and the opportunity to develop extensive knowledge of the manufacturing process flow. ### Other Requirements Strong attention to detail and a professional approach to work.
