## Job description

### Introduction

We're looking for an intern to join our quantum error correction research team. The focus of the internship will be on simulating low-error rate regimes and optimizing the performance of existing decoders. Work on other topics may be possible, depending on current project priorities

### Your role and responsibilities

Your work may be in one of the following errors:
- Implementing a Markov-Chain Monte-Carlo method for rare-event / low-noise quantum error correction simulations
- Investigating different optimization strategies for tuning decoders for optimal performance
- Work on methods for efficiently generating representative training data

### Required technical and professional expertise

The ideal candidate should have a background in Physics, Computer Science, Maths or a related field and ideally is familiar with quantum error correction. Programming skills are desirable. English proficiency (at least B2) is required, German proficiency is a plus. Suited for undergraduate and graduate students The role is suited for undergraduate and graduate students

### Preferred technical and professional experience

Experience in quantum and/or classical error correction and decoder research and benchmarking of decoders. Knowledge about standard decoders, such as Belief Propagation. Familiarity with low-error rate sampling methods and optimization methods.
