Reviews experiment designs, conducts experiments and reviews results against customer specifications and potential for cost reduction, process improvements, etc. for the business. Recognized as an expert in an area of science or technology. Documents and communicates project or experiment results. Provides the analytical tools to support business projects, manufacturing sites and competitive analysis ### Key Responsibilities - Develops and applies key fundamental knowledge to critical product attributes and impact on production process - Assists in assessing root cause and long term issues with manufacturing upsets - Designs and runs experiments, analyzes the data, and gives inputs and recommendations based on findings - Maintains and operates state of art lab - Supports new product concepts through testing, prototypes, etc - Provides technical leadership in troubleshooting May supervise direct reports - Mentors technicians and entry level engineers - Identifies and prioritizes necessary tools and resources - Serves as a technical lead on teams and/or provides technical expertise to project teams May collaborate with marketing to get customer requirements and needs as well as feedback - Develops conceptual designs and specifications for systems - Participates in the innovation process and provides technical expertise on a project team Documents findings and communicates learnings through RTR Reports May work independently or with cross-functional teams to design and test equipment Experiences/Education - Required - Values others and sets an example Contributes to an environment of respect and collaboration by supporting safety, workplace culture, and valuing the individual while listening and sharing viewpoints. Contributes to an inclusive environment. - Coaches and mentors Shares knowledge for the benefit of Corning and all employees within and outside of their own work group. - Demonstrates technical capability – influences the direction Influences peers, team(s), and provides technical guidance. Contributes to the creation of objectives and uses creative approaches to support projects; may manage a project workstream, process, or task(s) with limited guidance. May provide technical supervision within a laboratory/sub team, etc. Estimates risks and proposes ideas as appropriate to guide next step decisions or plans. Suggests enabling technologies that can be leveraged by the Technology Community for improvements of products or processes. - Demonstrates technical capability - knowledge and problem solving Consistently applies sound understanding of scientific and/or engineering methods and best practices* in proposing ideas or solutions for their discipline. Displays fundamental understanding of their field of work; can diagnose and solve moderate technical/engineering problems independently with little or no guidance. - (theories, principles, and tools) - Delivers impactful results Enables advancement of projects or initiatives resulting in efficiency gains or improvements using advanced scientific or engineering methods in various core competencies. Based on data and strong technical evaluation, provides critical thinking or fundamental understanding and/or demonstrates improved process or extends state-of-the-art equipment. - Protects institutional knowledge & intellectual property Contributor as a primary author on at least one formal written report or living document commonly used as a reference per year.
