Assesses competitors’ products and technology solutions, including performance, capabilities, software, data, automation, autonomy, systems integration, business models, and positioning relative to Caterpillar offerings.

Evaluates how competitors develop, deploy, integrate, support, and scale technologies at customer sites, including implementation approaches, interoperability, site readiness, operating practices, cybersecurity considerations, lifecycle support, in alignment with Caterpillar’s Values in Action. Identifies competitive technology gaps, risks, opportunities, and areas where Caterpillar should focus investment, differentiation or collaborations.

Monitors emerging technologies and adjacent-industry developments to assess potential disruption, applicability, and implications for Caterpillar’s product and technology roadmaps. Develops fact-based responses to leadership feedback and competitive commentary, enabling engineering, technology, and product management teams to remain focused on priority work. Constructively challenges product, system architecture, user experience, design, and technical strategy assumptions, including established paradigms and core beliefs about how technology-enabled products and solutions should be developed, positioned, integrated, and deployed.

Provides an independent industry and technology perspective that tests whether current product plans, technical approaches, and roadmaps reflect customer workflows, technology adoption needs, and industry realities.
