## Job description

IAG is a global function with over 400 team members across nine countries within American Express. We are committed to growing our audit staff as we continue to expand and enhance the Internal Audit Group. Our professionals come from diverse backgrounds including internal controls, regulatory compliance, financial accounting, operational risk, technology, and data analytics. Most IAG team members hold at least one professional certification.

Our audit teams align to key risk areas and business units to ensure IAG can provide comprehensive and risk-based audit coverage. In addition, IAG has a Professional Practices group responsible for managing audit operations, quality and standards, regulatory relations, reporting, training and professional development, and key internal capabilities and technologies

## Responsibilities

### Key Responsibilities

Lead a geographically diverse team responsible for planning, executing, and reporting credit and fraud risk audits and related initiatives in accordance with professional and departmental standards, approved budgets, and established deadlines. Lead audit-related regulatory examinations and interactions, coordinating responses and ensuring clear, timely, and well-supported communication with regulatory bodies. Build and sustain deep subject-matter expertise across credit and fraud risk controls, including credit concentrations, and translate that expertise into effective audit coverage.

Oversee risk and control assessments and the development of high-quality, actionable audit findings, partnering with relevant control groups and external auditors to coordinate audit planning and execution. Generate forward-looking business and risk insights by expanding and overseeing a portfolio of audit analytics, including data-driven monitoring and continuous assurance capabilities. Coach, mentor, and develop junior colleagues and co-sourced resources across the audit and analytics lifecycle, audit methodology, and broader role responsibilities.

Manage team capacity, capability-building, and talent planning, including training, recruiting pipelines, candidate screening, and selection.

## Qualifications

### Qualifications

10+ years of relevant experience in internal audit, credit risk, fraud risk, operational risk, compliance, or a related control function within the financial services industry. Demonstrated leadership experience managing high-performing teams, overseeing multiple complex engagements, and providing clear, actionable developmental feedback. Deep knowledge of credit and/or fraud risk management frameworks, including governance, risk assessment, underwriting, customer management, portfolio monitoring, collections, fraud prevention and detection, investigations, issue management, and reporting.

Strong understanding of risks across consumer, commercial, or small business lending and payment lifecycles, including credit concentrations, first-party and victim fraud, account takeover, phishing, identity theft, cyber-enabled fraud, and other emerging threats. Working knowledge of regulations and industry guidance applicable to credit and fraud risk management, including FCRA, ECOA, BSA, PSD2, and comparable international frameworks.

Strong command of professional auditing practices, control theory, and the end-to-end audit lifecycle, including risk assessment, control design and operating effectiveness testing, issue development, and reporting. Experience evaluating technology-dependent controls, including system interfaces, reports, application security, business continuity, and third-party risk. Demonstrated ability to use data analytics, visualization, KRIs, KPIs, scorecards, and dashboards to identify risk themes, assess control effectiveness, and communicate actionable insights.

Ability to break down complex problems, integrate data analysis with business-process and risk-and-control knowledge, and develop practical, well-supported recommendations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex issues, conclusions, and recommendations clearly and credibly to senior management, regulators, and other stakeholders. Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities, and deliver results through sound judgment, project management, and creative problem-solving.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting, finance, risk management, information systems, data analytics, information technology, or a related field. Prior experience at a Big Four firm or global systemically important bank is preferred. Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions
